IBM Agrees To Pay $1.4 Billion For Sterling Commerce

International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) and AT&T Inc. has made an agreement. IBM agreed to pay roughly $1.4 Billion to AT&T Inc. for Sterling Commerce.

Sterling Commerce offers a variety of software and services which were designed to help such companies connect internal and external business systems—an area of increasing emphasis for IBM.

“Businesses today are operating in a highly competitive global environment in which lines between actions taking place within and outside an organization’s four walls are blurring,” said Craig Hayman, IBM Web Sphere general manager Craig Hayman, in a statement.

“Acquisition will give IBM new tools to help clients build dynamic business networks that connect. In addition, the fact that much of this can be done in the cloud will make it compelling to large numbers of our customers.” he added.

This will surely help them to avoid competition from Oracle and Hewlett-Packard which are also bulking up their enterprise software portfolios through buy outs.

There are about 2,500 Sterling employees that will be added to IBM’s WebSphere unit. Sterling Commerce estimates and counts about 18,000 customers worldwide.

Charles Djou’s Job Starts Soon in Washington

It’s a new beginning! Work will start soon in Washington, and in November he will have to run for the seat again.

“I remember many, many years ago when I won this seat, now it belongs to Charles,” said the former U.S. Congresswoman, Pat Saiki.

It’s been a long time since a Republican held a Hawaii congressional seat — about 19 years ago.

It’s a kind of victory that won’t be unnoticed from the President’s Home State with a solidly Democratic base since then.

“We have sent a message to the United States Congress, we have sent a message to the ex-governors, we have sent a message to the national Democrats, we have sent a message to the machine,” said Charles Djou.

Democrats said that Charles Djou’s victory was a big fluke or strong luck that won’t happen again in November after a primary puts just one strong Democrat on the next fight. With all their statements, Republicans disagree.

“Charles won by 10 points, I mean that’s a large victory, and we didn’t think that if we were to win that we’d come out that far, so we’re excited about that so I think it just shows the momentum is in Charles’ favor and the momentum going into November,” said Jonah Kaauwai with the Hawaii Republican Committee.

Air India Crash: No Distress Signal From Pilot Before Crash

The pilot-in-command of the Air India Express aircraft from Dubai was reportedly Z Glucia, a Serbian national. It overshot the runway and crashed while landing at the Mangalore airport. He was assisted by first officer Capt S S Ahluwalia.

Mangalore airport was located on a hill top. Meaning it demands accuracy and an error-free perfect landing. According to reports and some sources, the pilot did not report any malfunction or problem before landing to the Airport Traffic Control (ATC),.

According to the records, Z Glucia was an experienced pilot and familiar with such sensitive landings and had been on that route many times before. Therefore, the plane overshot the runway and went no break into the valley and caught fire.

Some reports are saying that there might be a tire burst that made the pilot difficult to stop the aircraft.

Asian Stock Markets plunged amidst Europe fears

Asian markets tumbled in an early trading last Friday, following a brutal day of their deepest plunge of stocks on Wall Street. Investors are now facing an intense pressure on selling and exporting since the debt crisis of Europe is still going on and possibly would spread around the world, as these Asian investors are fearing. Also, the number of claims of some Americans about being jobless brought an unexpected increase, which added to their pessimism.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 stock average shed 3.1 percent 9,711.68, with exporters falling sharply on a strong yen. South Korea’s Kospi lost 1.8 percent to 1,600.18, and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index was down with 3.1 percent at 4,181,60. In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average tumbled 3.6 percent to 10,068.01 in its biggest point drop since February 2009.

Investors are increasingly fearful that problems about debt crisis in countries like Greece and Portugal will spill over to other neighboring countries or probably elsewhere.

Michelle Obama’s State Dinner Dress

Michelle Obama continues to make talks and has been in the headlines in fashion world. This week, people have been talking about Michelle Obama’s state dinner dress.

The First Lady shines in a shimmery one-shoulder blue gown with a gathered bodice and a bejeweled waistline. The design of Michelle’s dress was Peter Soronen. Soronen knew that it was possible she’d wear the gown tonight, but didn’t know for sure until photos started to come out all over the news and blogs. To complete her fashion package she paired the dress with peeptoe heels and stunning dangle earrings.

Barack Obama wore his classic black tuxedo.  The Obamas met with Mexican President Felipe Calderon and his wife Margarita Zavala after their arrival for a State Dinner.

Some critics were saying that Michelle Obama’s dress was inappropriate because it was showing her breast. But other folks said that it was stunning and full of glamour. How about you? What do you think of Michelle’s State Dinner dress?
