PS3: Fat or Slim System Review

In 2009, the first ever PlayStation3® was built by Sony. Recently, they were able to innovate PS3 into a slimmer, compact version. Does this mean that we automatically buy the innovated product? First, let us look at the advantages and the disadvantages of PS3 Fat System.

Advantages:
Swanky design with quiet operation; all games in high-definition; PSP-like user-friendly interface; plays high-def Blu-ray movies in addition to upscaling standard DVDs; built-in Wi-Fi and flash media reader; 60GB hard drive; online play is free; HDMI output with 1080p support; no external power supply; free online gaming service; plays PS2 and PS1 games; backwards compatibility is hardware based.
Disadvantages:
Compelling exclusive games are still few and far between; PlayStation Home and rumble controller not available until 2008; a USB port on the back would’ve been nice; no infrared port means non-Bluetooth universal remotes aren’t compatible; glossy black finish is a fingerprint magnet; online gaming, media, and commerce options not nearly as developed as Xbox Live.

Now, let us look at the advantages and disadvantages of PS3 Slim System.

Advantages:
More affordable $299 price; slimmer, more compact design with quieter operation; all games in high-definition; easy-to-use interface; doubles as a Blu-ray and upscaling DVD player; built-in Wi-Fi; 120GB hard drive; HDMI output with 1080p support; no external power supply; built-in Web browser; free online gaming service.
Disadvantages:
Lacks backward support for PS2 games; no infrared port means non-Bluetooth universal remotes aren’t compatible; online gaming, media, and commerce options still aren’t as fully developed as Xbox Live, though they’re getting better.

Based from the information I’ve found, it seems that PS3 Fat System is a much better system. You might think I’m bias in the way I judge this systems, but PS3 Fat System offers a lot of features that gamers really look into, PS3 Slim System is just made compact and cheaper, but it means that the features were lessened, and from my experience, Slim Systems heats up quickly rather than the Fat Systems.
